It may have been Valentine’s Day, but there was no love lost in the squared circle when BCB Promotions brought St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, its first show of the year, to Walsall Football Club’s Stadium Suite last Friday.
Fight fans watched a five-bout fight card featuring bouts in the light, super-light, super-bantam, super-middle and heavyweight divisions.
Speaking about what fight fans could look forward to, BCB Promotions’ Head Trainer Paul Mann told Midlands Boxing Culture, “It’s a very matched show. They’re all 50-50 fights.
“The one that I’m really looking forward to, as well as the headliner, is Liam Davies versus Brett Fidoe, a boxer who everybody knows is very dangerous.
“That’s going to be a great fight, especially as Liam Davies is out to make a statement and wants to go all the way.”
In the first contest of the night, Wolverhampton’s Clayton Bricknell and Birmingham’s Daryl Pearce went toe-to-toe over four rounds.
Bricknell grabbed the early initiative in the super-lightweight contest, taking it to Pearce with his slick movement and more accurate punching.
By the third round, it was clear that both boxers were feeling the pace. Bricknell’s elusive movement and effective counters were telling and, despite Pearce’s constant pressing, were enough to forge a 39-37 points victory.

Kane Baker was also in action, taking on Telford’s Dean Jones in a lightweight contest over six rounds.
The popular Brummie boxer was in a relentless mood, taking the fight to Jones at every opportunity, fighting fire with fire and coming out on top after what turned out to be a captivating, all guns blazing battle.
Baker can now look forward to a rematch with Derby’s Myron Mills for the English Lightweight Title now scheduled to take place at the Second City Suite in Birmingham on Friday, 10th April.
In a four-round, super-bantamweight contest, Telford’s Liam Davies sealed his seventh straight victory when he defeated Brett ‘The Threat’ Fidoe.
The 23-year-old, who is now set to challenge Salford’s Mark Leach for the English Bantamweight Title, emerged from the fiery, hard fought contest with an impressive 39-37 win.

In the heavyweight division, Serbian born Emir Ahmatovic, making his UK debut, faced Nicaraguan, Walter Palacios.
Ahmatovic proved once again that he’s a big hitter. Some thunderous punching power ended the Nicaraguan’s challenge in the third round and notched his eye-catching record up to 8-0-0 (6 KOs).
The super-middleweight contest between Walsall’s Kearon Thomas and Shropshire’s Ryan Whitehead took centre stage as the fight-card reached its conclusion.
Despite vociferous support for Thomas, it was the Telford man, making his professional boxing debut, that had the edge.
A fired-up Whitehead blasted his way to a 40-36 win.
